Experience Fiddler on the Roof in a new way– in Yiddish, the language of Tevye and his family! Directed by Oscar and Tony Award-winner Joel Grey, the rich Yiddish translation by Shraga Friedman, z”l, adds new depth and dimension to the most well-known Jewish musical in the world. Don’t miss the beloved story of a community and its struggle to balance traditions and desires in a changing world. Want to send your child to a New York City Department of Education Selective Enrollment High School? Standardized test scores are the key to getting your child into one of these top schools. Among those (few) things that all New Yorkers can agree on, the excellence of the city’s Specialized High Schools surely occupies a special place of distinction. Publicly funded and administered, these nine high schools provide a world-class education that is the envy of many an independent school.
Today’s high school admissions process is more competitive than ever. Only 17% of students that apply are accepted into one of the New York City Department of Education Selective Enrollment High Schools. The average GPA for all Selective Enrollment High Schools is about 3.7, but even superior grades and great 7th grade standardized test scores will not guarantee acceptance.

EXPLORE THE HISTORY AND LEGACY OF NEW YORK CITY’S FIREFIGHTERS
IN A TROLLEY TOUR AT GREEN-WOOD
Firefighting was an exceptionally dangerous occupation in nineteenth-century New York City. There were little to no fire safety regulations, and up until 1865 Brooklyn’s fire companies were manned by volunteers.
Join Jeff Richman, Green-Wood’s historian, for a tour to uncover the stories of these courageous firefighters and their sacrifices. Stops along the trolley tour include the elaborate Firemen’s Monument (1848) that honors the death of thirty men who died in the line of duty, the symbolic brownstone fire hydrants that mark the lot of the infamous Americus 6 Fire Company (Boss Tweed was its founder), as well as first responders who died in the 9/11 attacks.
Reservations are recommended. If the event is not sold out, walk-ups will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Green-Wood and Kings County Distillery team up to uncover the lurid and storied past of distilling in Brooklyn. The afternoon kicks off with a trolley tour of the Cemetery’s permanent residents with whiskey connections, including the only casualty in the contentious Whiskey Wars of the mid-1800s. Afterward, the trolley will head to Kings County Distillery in the Brooklyn Navy Yard to explore how whiskey is made and enjoy a tasting of their specially crafted products.
Reservations are recommended. If the event is not sold out, walk-ups will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must be 21 or older. I.D. is required.
